THE PROBLEM

Trees are our greatest natural defense against climate change. They provide shade, lower energy costs, and enhance people’s health. Unfortunately, Charlottesville’s tree coverage is dangerously low.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

Sign up for the Green Team to help prevent climate change and create a greener Charlottesville. ReLeaf sponsors a two-week summer program in July for rising 9th, 10th and 11th graders. Learn about the importance of nature through fun activities and get your hands dirty by planting trees around Charlottesville. Other activities might include rafting the Rivanna River, taking an adventurous hike or climbing trees with professional arborists.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM US?

✓Six approximately 4-hour training sessions during the weeks of July 15 and 22

✓A $400 stipend for participating. ($300 to be paid at the end of the session, $50 for canvassing neighborhoods and $50 to help plant trees.)

✓Other perks, such as free meals, gift certificates and field trips.

WHAT DO WE EXPECT FROM YOU?

✓ Attend all 4 training sessions unless you have an accepted excuse.

✓ With a knowledgeable adult, commit to talking to home owners about planting and preserving trees.

✓ Commit to planting trees in a neighborhood.

✓ Answer text, emails or phone calls within 12 hours.
